10 Ways to Grow Your Business

Always aim to generate new business by increasing your customer base.  However, this is easier said than done.

Here are some useful tips to help you grow your customer base.

  1. Get to know your customers/clients

Develop a product or service that fits your customers needs. Ask them for a feedback and personalize to their needs.

  2. Give great customer service

Give exceptional customer service. Customers will not only remember great service, but they will also be more likely to refer other people to you.

  3. Keep your existing customers while looking for new opportunities

Have a plan ready to nurture your existing customers, such as sending an e-newsletter, letting them know about promotional events, or providing them with deals and offers.

But at the same time, keep looking for opportunities to increase your customer base. The right balance between nurturing customers and finding new ones is important. Do not increase your customer base at the expense of your existing customers.

  4. Get visibility on the search engines Search Optimization is the key to getting your website seen by your customers. Do it properly and you could significantly reduce your other advertising costs. Find out more about Search Engine Optimization here.

  5. Get good reviews                                                                                                                                                                              Aim to get good reviews. Most customers will look at your reviews before doing business with you. You cannot always please every customer and you might receive some bad reviews. However, by increasing the number of good reviews, the bad reviews will be diluted. I have a client who I visit regularly and the one thing I hear frequently from his new customers is ‘I read your reviews’. This tells you two things. Firstly his website is high up on the search engine and secondly his reviews are good. So ask your existing customers to post reviews on Google, Facebook, Yelp,  Angie’s List etc. Remember the reviews need to be built slowly on different sites and need to look natural. Set yourself a goal for every month.

  6. Use social media

Social media is a powerful tool. By promoting your business on these platforms you can not only get new clients, but you can listen to what people are saying about your service or product. You can use this information to improve your customer service or improve your product lines. This is called ‘social listening’.  Additionally, you can also find new keywords to target.

  7. Attend networking events

Networking is big. Look for industry specific events or join the local chamber of commerce and attend their networking meetings. It is not always about what you know but who you know. Through networking, you will build relationships with other people and encourage them to refer customers. So get your business cards ready!

  8. Host events

When hosting an event, encourage your existing customers bring their friends. This way you a have the opportunity to pitch to the friends and convert them to customers. Hosting your own event is great way to get to know your customers and build relationships.

  9. Give back to your community

By sponsoring a community event, you create brand awareness.  Building brand awareness in your local community is a excellent way to attract new business. For example, you can sponsor t-shirts for an underprivileged kids soccer team, which would give your business high visibility within your local community. Your business will be recognized as a caring supporter and this may open many doors.

  10. Monitor & Refine

Look at how you are getting your customers. Monitor the different marketing methods you are using.  Focus on the activity that is bringing you the best results. Refine your approach. Not all methods work but it does not mean you should give up.
